Introducing Lucee
Monday, June 23rd, 2008
We’d like to take this opportunity to introduce “Lucee”. As some of you already know, Lucee was our Chocolate Female from our last litter. Although we had several calls for a chocolate female, the longer we kept her, the more we liked her. Lucee is petite. Very healthy, but small. The vet said she might make 50 lbs. One of our other females, Image is 57lbs and short. 50 lbs is good. And we like her. She looks at us with those big brown eyes. It melts us. We didn’t say anything at first about keeping her. People tend to roll their eyes when we tell them. So “Sunset’s Lucee with Diamonds” is here to stay. That is her official name. Lucee for short. We named her after the song,” Lucy in the sky with Diamonds “by Elton John. So now Lucee is 12 weeks old. She is doing very well. For anyone who is leery about adding a second or their dog, let me tell you what we did. We let Lucee out to mingle with the others for short periods at first and always supervised. . Most play, some growl, some can’t be bothered. But Lucee doesn’t realize she is small. In her eyes, she is a dog too. And she does have some advantages. She can run faster, run behind the sofa and come out the other side, run under coffee tables (the others can’t). We give her lots of exercise. That’s what “The Dog Whisperer” Caesar Milan recommends, lots of exercise. . We are big fans of his. We start our mornings off with a long walk around the block. About 30 mins. Then we eat and play. Then is social time for her with the other dogs. We do this 4-5 times a day. She is so tired when I bring her in, she goes right into the same whelping pen and goes to sleep. Oh no, I have not taken the whelping pen down yet. Lucee and Cooper were so comfortable sleeping in it together. When Cooper left, Lucee was a bit lonely so we have been taking Lucee shopping for more toys. The pen reminds me of when my kids were toddlers, the playpen full of toys, and somewhere in there a small child was playing with a toy or two. Lucee sleeps among all her stuffed animals. She stands out because she is so dark and the toys are all pastel colors. Her pen faces out so she can see what is going on all the time. She never barks when we put her in, she is so use to it. Only when she wants to go out does she bark. And then it’s bark, bark, bark! And sometimes, they all join in. Thank God the windows are closed. This past week the air conditioner has been on most of the time. We all love the air conditioning, including the dogs. Everyone is more relaxed, cool, napping. So we have another dog. What’s one more little bundle of “Chocolate Kisses”?
