Rock X Becky

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Today we bred Deeprun Sunset’s Rock and Sunset’s Daybreak Rebekha.  We are expecting black and yellow puppies and they are due on 7/31/09. This was a long awaited breeding due to my surgery. Rock has an excellent temperament and an awesome desire to please. Becky is a very nicely marked yellow with deep reddish coloring through out her body. With the combination of Rock and Becky we are anticipating an excellent litter of puppies. Arlene and I both hope the wait was worth it. We have been planning this breeding for almost 4 years.

2 Weeks old today

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Jammer’s puppies are 2 weeks old today and all are doing well. Their eyes are starting to open and they have more then doubled in size. A couple of them are standing on all four paws and attempting to walk. The little yellow female is growing and doing quite well, Arlene and I refer to her as “Miracle”. Neither one of us thought she would be here at this point but she has more spunk and desire then you can imagine. When you look at her she looks to be about a week behind but she is growing. Jammer is doing great and is eating us out of house and home. So at this point all are doing well and very content.

Arlene won a “Box of Lottery Tickets” last week at work for Nurses Week. Although she only won $16.00, the puppies love their new basket for sleeping. There are 7 puppies in there somewhere. They can climb out of it so it will only be good for a few days. Later this week, we will get rid of the newspaper and replace it with cushions and crib sheets when it’s warm. At night when it cools down, the pups sleep on fleece. They are getting so big.

Jammer’s litter week 1

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

The puppies are one week old today and all are doing great. They are growing like weeds, in just a week’s time they have doubled in size. The yellow female is doing well, she is much smaller then her brothers and sisters but she has more spunk in her then all of them. Arlene and I make sure she is the first to nurse due to her size but it is funny to watch her push her way back to mom when she gets nudged away. Some how she finds away. Jammer is just being Jammer; she is a very picky eater. She has had everything from cat food to canned salmon. Jam has had bacon and eggs, moist dog food, liver and hot dogs. She has such a variety I can’t keep up with all her different meals. Arlene takes care of most of the feeding her. By the way most of the time she has to eat with one of our other labs Kelly. Jam doesn’t like to eat alone. She is a funny lab when it comes to food. The puppies spend most of their time eating and sleeping. They are starting to move around the whelping pen and breaking up into little groups. Each day they seem to leave mom a little further away. Two of them are starting to yelp, not quite a bark. When the rest of them catch on: the noise will begin. Hopefully all will continue to go forward and the progress will continue.

Puppies Born 5/14/09

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

6:15PM Jammer had her first puppy, a black female. At 4:30AM her last puppy was born, a yellow female. Jam had a total of 7 puppies by the time she was done giving whelping. It was a long night to say the least. Jammer and Arlene and I are exhausted. All her puppies are doing well, the yellow female is much smaller then the other 6 pups and she is not nursing as well. Arlene and I keep trying to get her going. The yellow female has a lot of fight about her so we will hope for the best. As long as Jammer doesn’t start to separate her from the rest of the litter she has a chance to nurse and stay warm. This is the 3rd breeding of Jammer and Magnum and she has had all 3 colors in all her litters. 2 black males, 2 black females, 1 chocolate male, 1 chocolate female and 1 yellow female. This will be Jammer’s last litter and she is going to be retired. For those of you who have followed us over the years now about Jammer’s litter last year and a pup named Cooper. Cooper was a yellow male that was returned to us due to allergies in his new family. We still have many inquiries about Cooper and if I ad not had to have a hip replacement Cooper would still be with us. He has gone to a wonderful home and many days I think about what might have been. But knowing he has a great home gives me satisfaction. Know it is time for some sleep, Jammer, Arlene and me.
